From mortgages and credit scores to saving for retirement, new Google search analysis reveals the financial questions Britons ask most.
Whether it's trying to understand credit scores, work out mortgage payments or learn how to save more money, millions of people across the UK turn to Google every month for financial advice.
To better understand the nation's biggest financial concerns, we analyzed thousands of Google searches related to personal finance, transfer money, remittance etc. After removing duplicate, branded and irrelevant keywords, we ranked the most searched money-related questions based on their average monthly search volume.
The results show that Britons are primarily searching for guidance on borrowing, investing, taxes, banking and everyday money management, highlighting the financial topics that matter most.
The UK's 20 Most Googled Money Questions
Key Findings
Borrowing and credit dominate Britain's financial questions
Questions related to borrowing, mortgages and credit make up a significant proportion of the top searches. Queries such as "What is a line of credit?", "What is a credit score?", "How to get pre-approved for a mortgage", and "How much can I borrow for a mortgage?" all rank among the most searched financial questions.
This suggests that access to credit and understanding borrowing remain major priorities for UK consumers.
Investing is no longer just for experts
The joint highest-ranked search, "How to invest in index funds", demonstrates growing public interest in long-term investing. Rather than searching for individual stocks or complex investment strategies, many people appear to be looking for straightforward ways to begin building wealth.
Britons are actively looking for ways to manage their money
Budgeting and saving remain key concerns, with searches such as:
- How to track expenses
- How to create a budget
- How to reduce household expenses
- How to save for retirement
These searches indicate that many households are seeking practical ways to improve their financial health amid ongoing economic pressures.
Tax and banking remain confusing
Several of the UK's most searched financial questions relate to banking and taxation.
Topics including tax calculations, preparing tax returns, routing numbers and wire transfers continue to generate substantial search interest, suggesting that many people still rely on Google to navigate financial systems and terminology.

Expert Commentary
"The data shows that people aren't just looking for ways to save money, they're trying to build financial confidence. From understanding credit scores to learning how to invest and manage household budgets, these searches reflect real-life financial decisions that millions of people make every day.
Interestingly, many of the most searched questions aren't about advanced investing or wealth management. Instead, they're about understanding the basics, which highlights the ongoing need for accessible, trustworthy financial education."
Methodology
This research analysed Google search data relating to personal finance in the United Kingdom.
A broad set of finance-related seed keywords: including money, savings, mortgages, credit, investing, taxes and banking were used to generate thousands of related search queries. Duplicate entries, branded searches and keywords unrelated to personal finance were removed.
The remaining question-based keywords were ranked using average monthly UK search volume to identify the most searched money questions.
About the Research
This study aims to highlight the financial topics that matter most to people in the UK by analysing real search behaviour rather than survey responses. Because the rankings are based on Google search demand, they offer a snapshot of the questions people actively seek answers to online.
